Storm Review

Storm, an indie game developed by Eko Software, is a puzzle solving game utilizing the elements of nature. This relaxing game will have you enjoying yourself with various ways of using the elements to spread trees across many levels.

Storm is a game that will make you feel relaxed. The music really helps build the atmosphere and mood, and the artistic visuals make you feel at peace. The puzzles won't leave you frustrated for long, if you ever do get a little stumped. It's the kind of game to play when you want to relax for a bit, and it does a great job at doing that. Since Storm has short levels, it's easy to just play this game on-and-off.

Even though this game may not force you to rack your brains thoroughly like other puzzle games, it still is very interesting to use nature at your will to make things happen. Storm makes creative use of rain, wind, and lightning as solutions to traversing the land to plant seeds all over fertile soil. Watching the seasons pass as you progress and seeing the change in your interaction with the environment is also quite neat. The puzzles are not highly challenging, but they do make you take a moment to think about it. The puzzles are uniquely presented with the three elements, and make use of a little solving and a little bit of timed action.

The physics engine usually works well and makes it easy to do what you want at first, but there are a lot of times where it just frustrates you when your seed gets stuck. This would mean having to either do a quick reset of the seed position, or in some of the more annoying cases, do a full reset of the level. Each level isn't very long, but having to repeat levels isn't very fun when you know exactly what you need to do, and have been getting stuck along the way. This gets progressively more difficult to enjoy as the seasons pass, as later levels cause more frustration.

If you can look past the rather frustrating bits, it is an enjoyable game to relax with. With 3 modes to keep you occupied, despite the short length of the game, you'll find something you can feel at peace playing with for a while. Unfortunately, if you complete the game, you'll end up back where you started and unable to access the levels in the other modes until you've completed them again.

The game would be great to enjoy when you want to wind down and relax for the night if not for the grievous flaw of not being able to enjoy completing the levels. It's rather frustrating to be stuck on a level when you're not stuck on the puzzle.

6/10
