Shadow of the Eternals is going to be an episodic game, with a total of 12 episodes in the first season. This is their current goal with the kickstarter campaign, to fund all 12 episodes. It seems like they are hoping to be able to achieve that goal, and succeed in continuing with another season, and hopefully more to come after that. I'd absolutely love for that to happen.
They've got some gameplay footage out to show everybody the work that's been done so far, and I like what is there already. It reminds me of Eternal Darkness, and while there isn't enough to totally understand how the game is going to be like, it gives me the same feeling. The devs have said that the game will be done so that you'll be seeing glimpses into various times in history, just as in Eternal Darkness.
Here's a trailer for the game, and if you want to find out more about Shadow of the Eternals, check out their Kickstarter page and the official Shadow of the Eternals game site.
I've never played an episodic game, and didn't really know what it meant until you described the setup. It sounds interesting though- I'm looking forward to trying it with an open mind.
ReplyDeleteIt's a style of game releasing that has been gaining popularity through the last few years with releases like Sam & Max, The Walking Dead, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and arguably the Half-Life 2 episodes. It lets the devs learn from player feedback and implement it as they release episodes, while keeping player interest alive by releasing game content more often rather than in a single large releases.
